Head and neck cancers can be treated if they are diagnosed early. Cigarette and tobacco use is the most important factor in deaths related to the disease. Cancers of the head and neck may manifest themselves with symptoms such as a wound, nodule or color change in the region, or through a change in voice, lip growth, swelling in the neck, problems with swallowing or ear ache. These signs and symptoms may also be present in other conditions that are not cancer. However, the importance of early diagnosis must not be forgotten, and medical advice should be sought.
